Abel has just posted a farewell note to fans this week. You can check it out below...
It was around this time four years ago that Alex, John, and I hydroplaned and wrapped the front of our Jeep around a tree on our way to Cornerstone Festival. It was the biggest setback imaginable at a time when Abel was a very young band, and had—until that point—mostly been hallmarked by successes we only dreamed of in previous projects. From that moment on, Abel has been a lesson in learning to adapt to the unexpected and turn negatives into positives. We’ve managed to overcome time, money, distance, personal conflicts, broken equipment, failed tours, label changes, and so many other things that could have brought us to an end, but by the grace of God, only spurred us on to fulfill what we felt was our purpose as a band.
I should mention that we had many amazing moments too—traveling across the country to play music we love in front of crowds big and small; forming real, lasting relationships with other bands, fans, promoters, label owners, host families, and people of every kind that just wanted to talk about their lives, or music, or Jesus.
So it is with sadness that Abel is breaking up.
All of us have grown and changed so much over the last four-and-a-half years, and it’s finally come to a point where we can no longer keep the band going with so little time at such a great distance. We are very proud of everything we’ve accomplished and thankful for everyone who has helped us along the way—our thank-you list is so long we can’t even begin to write it all down.
So, to everyone who has been there, spurring us on, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. You have made an incredible impact on our lives and we are not the same because of it. We will do our best to book some farewell shows this Fall so we can play for you one last time. Until then God bless you!
— Kevin, Alex, John, and Dan(Oh, and without going into too much detail—we managed to get ourselves out to Cornerstone in a borrowed car, and then borrowed enough money to buy a used van to get home. We did a lot of borrowing back then.)
